The Citi AAdvantage MasterCard is one of several credit cards that are offered by Citibank and is designed for cardholders with average credit and frequently travel on American Airlines.
With the use of the rewards program, cardholders earn one mile for every two dollars that is spent on the card. In addition, 5,000 bonus miles are awarded after the first purchase with the card. The accumulated miles can be redeemed for flights on over 25 American Airlines partner airlines, car rentals, and hotel stays. A maximum of 25,000 miles can be accumulated annually except for except for Executive Platinum and Gold customers who are exempt. The points do not expire as long as the cardholder uses his account at least once every three years.
The bronze Citi AAdvantage MasterCard is different from the other AAdvantage credit cards in that it has no annual fee and doesn't offer much in the way of benefits other than the reward program. Keep in mind that though there is no annual fee, the miles awarded are about half of what other airline reward cards give. The APR is higher than most reward cards at 17.99% variable based on prime rate, and cash advances have a minimum interest rate of 19.99%. There is no balance transfer fee, but there is a cash advance fee of 3% with a $5 minimum being assessed.
Those likely to derive the most benefits from this card are those who are looking for a rewards card with no annual fee and do not plan to spend more than $50,000 a year on the card.
Some of the benefits a cardholder is likely to receive from the use of this card include the following:
• Online access to account information
• No liability to the cardholder for unauthorized transactions
• Protection from fraud
• Solutions to identity theft
• Reporting of lost and stolen cards
• Emergency cash and card replacement
• Automatic payment of bills
• Financial statement at year's end if requested
• Travel accident insurance
• Car rental insurance

If you have a Citibank credit card, have they raised your rates by a lot?
My Citibank Mastercard had a rate of 11.99% for a long time. I have had it since 1982. They raised the rate to 25.24%. When I called to complain they said I could either accept their terms or pay the balance in full and opt out which would close the account. I am going to opt out and hope my Visa which is with another bank won't go up. Why are they raising them to such high levels when the prime lending rate is around 3.25%. Is there no law which can prevent this?
My complaints went to 2 supervisors because I asked the receptionist to let me talk with them and they said they could do nothing as the decision was made in upper management and was done across the board. This card has no benefits at this outrageous rate. I owe only $600 and I am paying it off and cutting it in a hundred places and saying good riddance to Citibank. We once had a mortgage with them and a student loan which are paid off, but I simply think they are trying to screw over their good customers. So much for the government helping the middle class??
Answer
I did unfortunately. I have had my account for almost 10 years, always paid on time and paid more than the minimum every month. I was laid off from my job at a bank in April and have been struggling a bit. I went over my limit by $8 and was charged a $39 fee. I also received a letter saying my rate was going up from 15% to 31% in January. I called 3 different time and even spoke with supervisors only to hear that they appreciated my business but they would not be able to stop the increase. I owe 10,000 and can't imagine paying that much in interest! I ended up calling them today to have my account closed so the rate would stay the same while I pay it off. They don't care about their client s at all and are the worst company I have ever dealt with. I had a the same situation happen with my Capitol One card going over by less than $5 and I called them to make sure my rate would not increase. Not only will they not increase my rate but they also removed the over limit fee. I wonder who cares more about their clients?
